I guess the world at large is not hip enough yet, either... but I digress. .... I never expected a purely java-based phone (even if it's Google's java) to be a serious contender. I suspected Apple would do essentially what Windows did. Port a compact version of their Darwin OS to a mobile, and the difference would be fast and stable ... Apple's selling the App Store to people under the idea that for any given need or interest, “There's an App for that. .... Perhaps Java here should be called J2ME, because Android and BlackBerry also are “Java” phones. BlackBerry is also primarily a J2ME platform with some enhancements.
